Perceptual versus Gaussian Smoothing for Pattern-colour Separability
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper brings to the fore a set of masks that are used in combination to simulate the pattern-colour separability function of the human visual system. These kernels give a perceptual degree of smoothing which correspond to measurements estimated from human psychophysical experiments. We have found that they are a better approach to image smoothing for colour images than the traditional Gaussian masks which are widely practised.

Hue Correlate Stability using a Gaussian versus Rectangular Object-Colour Atlas
The perceptual correlate to hue and the stability of its representation in the coordinates of Logvinenko's illumination-invariant object-colour atlas (Logvinenko, 2009) are investigated. Logvinenko's object-colour atlas represents the colours of objects in terms of special rectangular reflectance functions defined by 3-parameters, a (chromatic purity), o (spectral bandwidth) and A. (central wav...
متن کاملPerceptual Smoothing and Segmentation of Colour Textures
An approach for perceptual segmentation of colour image textures is described. A multiscale representation of the texture image, generated by a multiband smoothing algorithm based on human psychophysical measurements of colour appearance is used as the input. Initial segmentation is achieved by applying a clustering algorithm to the image at the coarsest level of smoothing. Using these isolated...
متن کاملEvaluation of Tests for Separability and Symmetry of Spatio-temporal Covariance Function
In recent years, some investigations have been carried out to examine the assumptions like stationarity, symmetry and separability of spatio-temporal covariance function which would considerably simplify fitting a valid covariance model to the data by parametric and nonparametric methods. In this article, assuming a Gaussian random field, we consider the likelihood ratio separability test, a va...
متن کاملCBIR with Perceptual Region Features
A perceptual approach to generating features for use in indexing and retrieving images is described. Salient regions that immediately attract the eye are colour (textured) regions that usually dominate an image. Features derived from these will allow search for images that are similar perceptually. We compute colour features and Gabor colour texture features on regions identified from a coarse ...

The theoretical framework of General Recognition Theory (GRT; Ashby & Townsend, Psychological Review, 93, 154-179, 1986) coupled with the empirical analysis tools of Multidimensional Signal Detection Analysis (MSDA; Kadlec & Townsend, Multidimensional models of perception and recognition, pp. 181-228, 1992) have become one important method for assessing dimensional interactions in perceptual de...
